Oh my stars! The train ride was SO MUCH BETTER than the last one! Not sweltering hot, and we slept so well! The restaurant car is really cool, they have everything, even ice cream! Leave it to me to make sure I try the ice cream!
When we got off, we were starving and had pizza for breakfast b/c Sbarro was the closest place. Then off to Ismilovo to check in, and for Lorna to get some souvenir shopping in at the market...the rest of us got stuff too, but lady was on a mission! After repacking and resting...I was actually furiously blogging...we met up with Sergey, who translated for us a few times, lived in Lee's Summit for 4 yrs and was the guy who Dave couldn't have gotten Katya home without his help.Sergey wanted to take us to a mexican restaurant near red square. Now, I trust Sergey, but mexcian in RUSSIA??? I'm just going to take a moment to share how odd this is...if you've been here before or even heard us talk about the food in Russia-bland, no spice & mystery meat-then you know it is nothing like what Mexcian food should taste like. I was more than a little concerned the salsa would be made with cabbage. And surely Russia doesn't have CILANTRO?!?! That said it was STELLAR! I still cannot believe how good it was...chips, salsa, chimichunga, enchiladas, burritos...with actual chicken! And I learned a lot about importing spices and food...'cause there was a lot of cilantro!
On a random note, we are flying over Iceland right now and I thought it was Greenland until I saw a whole town. In case anyone was curious they have a LOT of snow right now, but I can see the black beaches from way up here. Pretty cool...it is the only time it hasn't been cloud covered since we tool off! We heard Iceland went into a recession while we were gone, and since we left Russia has done something rather historic while we were here...6 year terms, seriously??? They all totally LOVE Putin so now he can run for President again, and none of them care he is fast approaching dictator for life?!?!
This flight is my least favorite part of the trip-12 hours-Dave can sleep anywhere, and Lorna's just chillin'...but now that we have done what we we came to do I am ready for my own bed! Not to mention a really good steak and potato, Chinese and Italian...it is always the same after I eat Russian for 10 days...thanks for following along and I apologize for run on sentences, spelling errors and whatever else! If you have questions about something I've said or haven't said feel free to post and we'll answer in the next few days! Spaseeba bolshoi y das vydanghna!
In Jesus' mission,
Stephanie
